About Us

The University of Chicago Ballroom & Latin Dance Association was founded in 1993 as a student-run organization with the aim to bring a love of dance to the University and surrounding neighborhood. We have three objectives:

  1. Provide accessible, low-cost dance lessons
  2. Host regular dance events for the community to engage and enjoy dance
  3. Train our competitive ballroom team to represent UChicago at collegiate DanceSport competitions

FAQs

How do I start? Simply show up to any of our events and introduce yourself. You have the option of paying for a single class or a full academic quarter. We also periodically host free events throughout the quarter.

Who is eligible? BLDA is open to everyone, students and non-students alike. No experience required.

Do I need a partner? Nope! Lessons are a great way to meet people and we rotate partners regularly during every class.

What should I wear? Bring comfortable shoes or socks. If you are interested in performing or competing, you may want to invest in dedicated dance shoes. Visit the Dancewear page to learn more.
