The University of Chicago Ballroom & Latin Dance Association was founded in 1993 as a student-run organization with the aim to bring a love of dance to the University and surrounding neighborhood. We have three objectives:
- Provide accessible, low-cost dance lessons
- Host regular dance events for the community to engage and enjoy dance
- Train our competitive ballroom team to represent UChicago at collegiate DanceSport competitions
Lessons and Pricing
See our Calendar for our lesson schedule and pricing.
How do I start? Simply show up to any of our events and introduce yourself. You have the option of paying for a single class or a full academic quarter. We also periodically host free events throughout the quarter.
Who is eligible? BLDA is open to everyone, students and non-students alike. No experience required.
Do I need a partner? Nope! Lessons are a great way to meet people and we rotate partners regularly during every class.
What should I wear? Bring comfortable shoes or socks. If you are interested in performing or competing, you may want to invest in dedicated dance shoes. Visit the Dancewear page to learn more.
